Joe Taylor, the striker for Luton, had a completely different career path just 18 months ago. He was working as a bartender, but now he has set his sights on playing against the biggest names in world football as Luton enters their first-ever Premier League season.

Although Taylor is only 20 years old and has made just 25 appearances in the Football League, he will now have the opportunity to step onto prestigious pitches like Old Trafford and Anfield. However, his journey to this point was far from certain.

Taylor, who came up through the Norwich academy, nearly gave up on football after being released by the Canaries. At that time, he had even considered pursuing other sports instead. In an interview with The Sun, he recalled, “As a kid, I was more of a cricket fan, but Norwich signed me when I was nine.

When I didn’t get my scholarship, it was the worst feeling I’ve ever had in football, aside from my disallowed goal at Wembley! Another lad who was released, Aaron Powell, and I got trials at Peterborough, and we were offered contracts.”

This turn of events tempted Taylor to turn his back on football. During a conversation with his father, he openly confessed that he “hated” the sport and expressed his desire to focus on rugby and cricket instead.

Despite this initial hesitation, Taylor eventually found his way back to football. He signed a youth contract with non-league King’s Lynn, and this decision proved to be an excellent one for the young player. He quickly made progress, moving up the ranks and eventually breaking into the reserve team. Throughout this journey, Taylor rediscovered his passion for football and “fell back in love” with the game.
