The Africa Super League is Here: Get To Know The 8 Participating Clubs

Sundowns have agreed to participate in a football tournament, as reported by MTN FC. Although details about the tournament are not clear, it seems that the tournament will feature eight teams from various countries, instead of the originally proposed 24 teams.

Representatives from the participating clubs have been inspecting facilities and stadiums and finalizing details for their involvement. High-profile teams such as Raja Athletic Club, Orlando Pirates, and Kaizer Chiefs will not be participating, but TP Mazembe will take part instead.

The eight participating teams will include Petro de Luanda, Mazembe, Horoya, Wydad Athletic Club, Simba SC, Esperance de Tunis, and Masandawana. It is not yet known if each club will receive $1 million for participating or if the total prize pool will still be $100 million, as initially proposed by CAF President Patrice Motsepe when the tournament was supposed to include 24 teams.

The tournament is expected to take place during the 2023/24 domestic season, with a single group of home and away fixtures. It has been suggested that the winning team may earn a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup, with four spots available for African teams in 2025.

However, there have been no indications that this new tournament will replace the traditional CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup tournaments.
