Real Madrid is reportedly considering Antonio Silva, the Benfica centre-back, as a backup transfer option if they fail to secure RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol this summer.

However, Madrid may face intense competition for Gvardiol and could opt for Antonio if the former proves too expensive. But, there are hurdles to overcome before the Antonio deal can go through.

Comparatively, Gvardiol is more experienced than Antonio. Gvardiol is 21 years old and has excelled on the World Cup stage in Qatar and has been a regular in the Bundesliga for two seasons.

Whereas Antonio is only 19 and has less experience. However, if Real Madrid cannot sign Gvardiol, Antonio could be a cheaper alternative.

Real Madrid wants to sign a young centre-back this summer, regardless of whether they sign Gvardiol or Antonio. The team is currently building a youth movement with Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Eduardo Camavinga among the regular squad members who could play for the team for many years to come.

Real Madrid wants a centre-back who is in their teens or early 20s and can fit in with the team’s timeline.

Currently, Real Madrid is seven points behind Barcelona in La Liga, but they have a chance to knock their rivals out of the Copa del Rey on Thursday.
