Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has suspended Lionel Messi for two weeks after the footballer took an unauthorized trip to attend personal events, according to a source at the club. The source revealed that Messi missed a training session on Monday to attend promotional events outside of France. It has been reported that Messi is currently in Saudi Arabia with his family.

Messi, a seven-time Ballon D’Or winner, posted on Instagram four days ago promoting Saudi tourism, saying he loves exploring the unexpected wonders of the country. Ahmed Al-Khateeb, the Minister of Tourism for Saudi Arabia, also tweeted a welcome message to Messi and his family, inviting them to enjoy the country’s “magical tourist destinations and authentic experiences.”

PSG is set to face Troyes and Ajaccio over the next two weeks. Despite Messi’s presence in the squad, PSG lost 3-1 to Lorient at home on Sunday, although the team remains at the top of the Ligue 1 table.

Messi’s contract with PSG is set to expire on June 30, 2023. His reported trip to Saudi Arabia comes amid multiple reports that he may not stay with the Parisian club.

Messi’s suspension

The suspension of Messi is a major blow to PSG, who are currently battling for the Ligue 1 title with Lille and Monaco. The two-week suspension means that Messi will miss two games for the team. It is not clear whether Messi will be available for PSG’s Champions League game against Manchester City on November 24.

Messi’s suspension is not the first disciplinary issue at PSG this season. Earlier this month, Neymar was suspended for two matches after being sent off during PSG’s 2-0 loss to Marseille.

PSG’s position

Despite Messi’s suspension, PSG remains one of the strongest teams in Europe, with a star-studded squad that includes Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Sergio Ramos. The team is currently sitting at the top of Ligue 1 with 25 points, one point ahead of Lille and two points ahead of Monaco.

However, PSG’s recent form has been inconsistent, with the team winning just two of their last five games in all competitions. The loss to Lorient on Sunday was a significant setback, as PSG had won their previous seven games in a row.

PSG will be hoping to bounce back from their recent loss to Lorient when they face Troyes on November 6. The team will be hoping to have Messi back in the squad for the game, although it is not clear whether he will be available.

Regardless of Messi’s availability, PSG will be looking to secure a win against Troyes to maintain their position at the top of Ligue 1. With strong competition from Lille and Monaco, every point will be crucial as the season progresses.
