No Drama in the Dressing Room: Cancelo Shuts Down Guardiola Fight Speculation
Joao Cancelo has denied rumours of a fight with Pep Guardiola, calling them a ‘total lie.’ Despite playing more minutes than any other defender for Manchester City this season, Cancelo surprisingly left the team on the last day of the January transfer window.
He has joined Bayern Munich on loan for the rest of the season, with the option for the German champions to sign him permanently in the summer for £ 61 million.
Cancelo had lost his place in the team before leaving, but his sudden departure sparked speculation that he and Guardiola had a falling out and that an argument between them forced him to leave.
The 28-year-old player has said that the rumours of him fighting with Guardiola are completely false. He spoke to Mundo Deportivo and said that he didn’t feel like he was an important player in recent games, so he talked to the coach and they both agreed that it was best for him to leave the team.
He says he likes new opportunities and has nothing against Manchester City. He’s grateful to Pep and the club for everything they did for him and his family.
Cancelo also said that he might come back to Manchester City in the summer and play for the team again. Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said that the fee to sign Cancelo would be difficult for them to pay, which makes it more likely that Cancelo will return to Manchester City.
He said, “If all sides really want a common solution, you can manage that in the end. He knows that he has been one of our dream players for years.”
