Mosimane’s Second Loss: Al Ahli Suffers Home Defeat to Al Riyadh
Al Ahli coach Pitso Mosimane endured his second defeat at the helm after his side succumbed 2-0 to Al Riyadh on Sunday. The loss marked Mosimane’s second setback in the Saudi football league. Al Ahli suffered a defeat at the hands of Al Riyadh. Despite the loss, the Jeddah giants remain at the top of the league table.
Al Riyadh took the lead just six minutes into the game, courtesy of Brazilian Muralha’s goal. Nawaf Al Habashi then doubled their advantage seven minutes after the restart, and the capital team held on to secure the victory and claim all three points.
The defeat brought an end to Al Ahli’s impressive five-match winning streak, which had propelled them to the top of the table in the Saudi second division.
Pitso Mosimane has suffered his second loss since taking over as coach of Al Ahli in September, with the latest defeat coming on February 2 in a 4-1 loss to Al Akhdoud. Despite the setback, Mosimane’s side has established a reputation for a solid defense, having only conceded two or more goals in three out of his 20 games in charge.
In terms of the bigger picture, Al Ahli remains at the top of the table with 52 points, two points ahead of second-placed Al-Hazem and four points ahead of Al Riyadh.
The team is on course to secure a promotion to the top flight. Mosimane, who signed a one-year deal, aims to recreate history with Al Ahli, and he appears to be well on his way to achieving that goal and more.
