After Lionel Messi’s most recent display of game-changing brilliance for PSG, Sergio Ramos said he was “not surprised by Lionel Messi.”

Argentinian icon never ceases to surprise he just delivers when it counts. Stunning victory last time around.

WHAT HAPPENED? Prior to having the chance to stand over a pivotal free kick in the 95th minute for the defending Ligue 1 champions against Lille, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner had a rather quiet afternoon.

Messi’s signature strike over a dead ball that ricocheted against the inside of the post and into the net to secure a surprising 4-3 victory after a topsy-turvy game that saw Paris Saint-Germain blow a two-goal lead to trail at one point.

In response to Messi’s latest impressive performance, which adds to the Argentine’s already impressive collection of moments, experienced defender Ramos praised him in an interview with Amazon Prime, saying: “I’m no longer surprised by Messi.

“During his time at Barca, he often had the ability to decide games, just as he did here. I’m delighted that he’s now on my team. It’s obviously better to have him as a teammate. If you ask anyone whether they’d rather have Messi on their team or play against him, their response would be immediate and sincere.”

Looking at the bigger picture, Ramos and Messi were once fierce rivals on opposing sides of the intense Clasico rivalry in La Liga. However, both players moved to Paris in the summer of 2021 as free agents, after their contracts at Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively came to an end.

Messi has previously acknowledged that it felt unusual to be playing on the same team as former Real Madrid skipper Ramos.

However, he has since come to regard the 36-year-old center-back as a “great person”.

As PSG sets its sights on major silverware in both domestic and European competitions in 2022-23, Messi is eager to continue partnering with his fellow World Cup champion in the pursuit of these coveted trophies.
