Man Utd Confident Of Luring Tottenham Star To Old Trafford
Manchester United are reportedly confident that they can secure the signing of Harry Kane this summer, but only if Tottenham fails to qualify for the Champions League. According to sources, United believe that missing out on a top-four finish will force Spurs to lower their £100 million asking price for their star striker.
United have made contact with Kane’s representatives through a third party and is encouraged by the response they’ve received. Despite suffering a heavy 7-0 defeat to Liverpool over the weekend, United still believe that Kane would have a better chance of winning trophies with them than at Tottenham.
Kane, who will turn 30 in July, has already achieved his goal of becoming Tottenham’s all-time top scorer. However, with his £200,000-a-week contract set to expire at the end of next season, and with suitors in a better position to negotiate a lower fee if Spurs fail to qualify for the Champions League, the England captain could be tempted to move to Old Trafford.
With Cristiano Ronaldo having departed in November, and his on-loan replacement Wout Weghorst only managing one goal in 14 appearances, United are in need of a new goalscorer to boost their chances of challenging for the title next season.
Spurs are currently in fourth place, but a 1-0 defeat to Wolves over the weekend has put them under pressure, with resurgent Liverpool just three points behind them and a game in hand.
