Lopetegui Speaks Out: Wolves’ Contract Stand On Moutinho and Costa
Joao Moutinho, the revered Portuguese midfielder for Wolverhampton Wanderers, has yet to discuss extending his contract with coach Julen Lopetegui.
Moutinho’s latest contract with Wolves is set to end this summer after five years with the club, and negotiations last July resulted in a new one-year deal.
Under Bruno Lage, Moutinho was a regular player, but under Lopetegui, he has seen less playtime in the first eight Premier League games. Lopetegui has not prioritized talks regarding a new contract for Moutinho.
The coach has stated that he evaluates a player’s performance, daily work, and development, regardless of their age. Although Lopetegui hopes that 27-year-old Adama Traore remains with Wolves beyond the end of his contract, he appears to be more relaxed about players over 30 years old.
As for Diego Costa, 34, whose contract is set to expire in June, Lopetegui stated that it’s not the right time to consider his future, and the team’s energy should focus on the upcoming match.
