FIFA President Infantino Outlines Ambitious New Goals

Gianni Infantino was re-elected for another term as FIFA president during the 73rd FIFA Congress in Kigali, Rwanda on Thursday. The 51-year-old was unopposed and will continue to serve until 2027, after first being elected in an extraordinary congress in 2016 following the resignation of Sepp Blatter.

This marks Infantino’s second term as FIFA president, and according to FIFA rules, he will be eligible for a third and final term in four years’ time. This congress also marked a historic moment for FIFA, as it was the first elective FIFA Congress to take place in Africa.

Infantino has pledged to ensure the growth and unity of the global game through football, and he will continue to work towards achieving these goals during his new term as FIFA president.

During his acceptance speech at the 73rd FIFA Congress in Kigali, Rwanda, Gianni Infantino emphasized the importance of listening and learning as a leader, stating that he continues to learn every day. He also promised to act decisively as FIFA President, expressing his commitment to working towards uniting the world through football during his second term.

In addition, Infantino announced that the Women’s World Cup in New Zealand will receive more than USD 150 million in prize money, which is over three times the value from the last tournament in 2019 and ten times more than in 2015. He believes that this increase in incentives will help to promote and grow the women’s game.

Infantino expressed his gratitude and promised to continue serving FIFA and football all over the world, as well as all 211 FIFA member associations. The congress was also addressed by Rwandan President Paul Kagame.
