Real Madrid’s striker Karim Benzema was forced to leave France’s World Cup squad in Qatar due to an injury sustained in training. While his legal representative, Karim Djaziri, asserted that Benzema would have been fit for the tournament’s knockout rounds, Deschamps contradicted this in a recent interview with Le Parisien.

Deschamps claimed that he had not asked Benzema to leave and that the decision to withdraw from the squad was made by the striker himself.

This disagreement has created controversy around Benzema’s injury and his subsequent departure from the tournament, leaving questions about the implications for the player’s relationship with Deschamps and his future with the national team.

In a recent interview, France national team manager Didier Deschamps gave his version of events surrounding Karim Benzema’s injury and departure from the World Cup squad in Qatar.

Deschamps stated that upon arriving to the team after a period of semi-inactivity with Real Madrid, Benzema followed an individual program and his return to full training was delayed.

When Benzema injured himself, the team doctor accompanied him to the Aspetar clinic for an MRI scan. Benzema later showed the results to someone who medically follows him at Real Madrid, who gave him an opinion.

Deschamps met with Benzema and the doctor in his hotel room and, upon leaving, told him that there was no rush to return and that he could organize his return with the Team Manager.

However, when Deschamps woke up the next morning, he discovered that Benzema had already left the squad, a decision he understands and respects.

Karim Benzema responded to Didier Deschamps‘ version of events on his Instagram account by denying the claims made by the France national team manager.

Benzema captioned a story post with “What audacity”, referencing the interview. He then shared a video of a man calling someone a “liar”, and in the caption, mocked Deschamps by calling him “Sacred Didier” along with a clown emoji.

This response has raised questions about the relationship between Benzema and Deschamps and the potential impact on the player’s future with the national team.
