Arteta Is Confident Jorginho Won’t Fail Arsenal
The Gunners were gunnin’ to beef up their central midfield, even before Mo Elneny’s season-ender. Edu, the Sporting Director, made a shot at a club record bid for Moises Caicedo from Brighton, but the Seagulls weren’t having any of it, not after already losing big birds like Trossard, Bissouma, and Cucurella.
So, Arsenal swerved their focus to Jorginho, who was deemed surplus by Chelsea after their big Enzo Fernandez purchase. The route from Stamford Bridge to the Emirates has been well-trodden, but players like Willian, Luiz, and Cech never took flight in North London the way they did in Chelsea blue.
Arteta knows the reservations about another Chelsea veteran who might be past his prime, but he’s adamant that Jorginho will bring some qualities his current squad is lacking. He said, “Every time you sign a player, there’s gonna be some debate. Maybe they’re too young, too old, or too unknown. We have our criteria, and we do our research, but football is unpredictable, and you don’t always hit the mark. But, we put in all the work and intention to make it work, and I’m confident Jorginho will be a good addition.”
Arsenal added three players in January but also loaned out Lokonga and Marquinhos. When asked if he was happy with the size of his squad, Arteta replied, “I’m happy because we’ve added versatility, quality, and leadership to the team. Now, we just have to prove it and give these players a chance to bring a new edge to the team and give us more options.”
